A Wheel muller squeezes the sand/clay using (steel) wheels.  It has blades that scrape the sides and bottom, and to plow the sand in front of the wheel(s).  It smears the clay onto the sand grains.  
A Carver muller has rotating blades that are sloped up in front to squeeze the sand against the bottom.
